Giving Up What I Want Is The Prerequisite
For Giving God What He Wants.
Mark 8:35 (NKJV)
“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.”
Here’s a good question: Why do we want what we want?
How could we even suppose that our own desires could compare with the desires God has for us? Why do people have difficulty giving up their personal desires for God’s? Some of the reasons could be as follows:
Pride
Those with a proud heart won’t admit that they are still clinging to their own desires. They have convinced themselves that their own way of doing things is right, best, and even godly.
Comfort
Whatever God leads us to will be great, but it will not be comfortable. People stop surrendering their will to God’s whenever the next step requires sacrificing more comfort than they are willing to go without.
Misunderstanding
It is impossible for people to give up what they want when they don’t believe in God’s goodness. Those who view God as a traditional dictator (as opposed to a benevolent King) will not understand that the scope of God’s plan is infinitely more wonderful than a personal dream.
CONFESSION
Acts 20:24
“Father, I realize that my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s wonderful kindness and love.”
